NOPSA Garden

NOPSA Garden is a place where users can create their virtual plantation while helping out to tag new images. Other than adding new tags to images the game helps to verify already tagged images as well. The following explained game idea is inspired from popular Facebook game BarnBuddy and  Facebook game FarmVille (http://geniusgeeks.com/2010/12/best-facebook-games-2010/).

In the proposing NOPSA Garden will look like following once the user logged in. For the login purpose we can use either Facebook or Google account.

In the home screen you can find some interesting items. The area on the center is your garden. But at the beginning you will only have few number of garden area unlocked for planting trees. To buy new space you will need to earn money by harvesting. In the screen you can see how much money you have.

Step 1: You have to start with planting seeds on the "unlocked" spaces. Once you click the wheelbarrow in bottom right hand corner, a ribbon of images will pop on top. From the list you need to pick a one image you wish to plant. (here i have selected the cat seen in the image ribbon). Once you click on a image screen will pop you a window (not a separate one) as following.

Step 2: Now its time to set what the exact tag you want to plant. With the selected image it shows all the tags given before for the image. Just click on a tag which is correctly explaining the image and it will be planted in a empty space.

Fact : Before you get the harvest from the plant, plant needs to go through 5 stages. To move from one stage to another it takes 2 hrs of time and it needs to be watered. If you forget to water the plant it will stay in the same stage without moving to next phase.

Step 3: Once the tree is fully grown you can click on the small tree shown in your garden. Then it will pop a window with a enlarged version of the tree. This tree will consist of many fruits (images). These images are just a list of results taken from NOPSA search entering the tag you selected before. Your next task will be to pluck your fruits to the correct baskets.

Step 4: When you click on an image in the tree, you will get a window with an enlarged image of it. Now you know what kind of a tree you planted. Your next step is to select the correct basket. If the image shown explains the tag you selected then put into the correct basket and if it is not then just put into the wrong basket. Whether you put in to right or wrong basket still you get MONEY points. You can use them to buy new area to grow more trees.

Watering & Earn Points: As it was explained, in order to continue into next phases of the tree we need to water the plants. Once the water bucket ran out of water we need to refill the bucket. To refill your bucket from water you need to click the left upper corner water bucket named as EARN POINTS. When you click this button a window will pop a game very similar to "Google Image Labeler". By tagging photos given from NOPSA server will allow you to earn points.

Why this Game is so good ? :
1.) Game allow users to verify the tags and also to add new tags in order to keep continuing in this game.

2.) It is shown that similar kinds of games are very appealing for web users. In many of those games user are asked to pay for GOLD COINS or what ever money type they use. But in this game they can earn their points by working some community work :).

3.) We can allow users to use same points (may be we can name it NOPSA MONEY) in any other applications connected to NOPSA photos, such as Office Ribbon plugin.

How to make it super cool ? : Requesting Facebook to give some Facebook credits in exchange to many of our NOPSA currency. Then it will motivate the users very much because Facebook credits can buy many stuff inside Facebook network. They normally sell them for money. But the CSR and good will towards open source products and creative commons might work :).
